Whitmel Hill (1743-1797) of Bertie County, N.C., was a planter, merchant, state legislator, and perhaps a member of the Continental Congress. The collection includes a letter, circa 1795, from Whitmel Hill to arguing against the expediency of war with Great Britain; and a contemporary manuscript copy of Hill's will, 1 September 1798, itemizing his property.
